Stop Error: tspip.sys

after installing a PCI card for SkyDSL in a new computer, I am beginning to suffer stops with the explanation being tcpip.sys is trying to write to read-only memory. Since this is usually a hardware rather than software problem, I swapped out the memory (2GB) with similar crashes.

Since this happens usually after four to five hours of usage, I am beginning to believe that the card is overheating and causing the stop. I have two fans (the obligatory CPU fan and an auxillary in the rear of the case) and am leaving it open so that more air can circulate but the problem continues.

Should I install another fan (there is a place to plug it in on my ASUS P5LD2 Motherboard) or buy a small fan to blow into the machine, leaving the side open or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Thanx to anyone with a suggestion or definitive answer!

The following link may be of some help to you http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314067/ I say this because I see this problem started after you installed your network card.

The easiest way to troubleshoot would be to put another NIC in there and see if you have the same problem.

Can you provide the full stop error next time it does it?

thank you! First, I should tell you and the rest that it is W2K SP4, fully updated that I am running.

the error is as follows:

stop 0x000000be (0xaf45ef87,0x0cc69121,0xadc44540,0x0000000b)
an attempt was made to write to read-only memory.
this driver may be at fault: tcpip.sys

**Address af45ef87 base at af44b000, datestamp 444e2669 - tcpip.sys

again, thank you.

I have placed a small fan on the side of the computer to provide a constant air flow. As I look into the case, there is really no place to place an internal fan to provide an air flow past the card. since i have placed the fan, there has been only one crash.

thank you. However, I am running w2K sp4, fully updated. I am afraid that XP solutions will not help.

one more thing...do you think that the onboard network card may be causing a conflict?
