Windows updates

Hi Gang

I just recently went to a new SATA HD. Not too much of a problem transferring all my stuff over, except for the window updates. Have made several attempts at getting them installed, all 60 of them, but it fails each time I try it.

I was having the sign off problem, KB898461 (trying to download a couple of updates) and never does, did the fix for it KB898543, and they fixed that. Tried going into add and remove programs and deleting all the window updates things, and starting fresh, same problem. It list all 60 of them and when it finishes, it says it has failed. I don't seem to be having any other problems, except cant get IE 7, need the SP2 for that.

Any suggestions.???? Have tried several suggestions found on Google, no help.

Thanks and take care........Gunny

Have youtgot SP@ installed yet, I'm assumeing XP here,
de-select all updates except SP2

once that is installed, reboot and run updates again, try doing incremental updates
only select 3 or 4 at a time and re-boot inbetween sucessful runs

you'll get a better handle on whats failing

Windows updates

Hi Dschief

Ya I have XP home all right. Thats funny I never have had any problems getting the updates, trouble with them but not getting them.

I have tried getting the updates seveal times like I said. Every once in a while it comes up and lists the 60 of them, but most of the time I click on the express download it just lists that KB898461 and something else, and says that failed. I have tried that manual download too same thing fails.

I have an old Windows SP2 disc that I have tried several times too, and it does its thing, and when all is said any done, you think you have them but when you go into control panel, (add and remove programs) and have it checked to see the updates, and check to see if you have them, they are not there.

Thanks and take care.......Gunny

You mean to tell me all you learned people don't have an answer to this problem, I am very surprised. That is amazing. I would think you had received so many questions along these lines you would almost have an automatic answer.

Maybe I am just catching you all have supper, or lunch.

Thanks and take care......Gunny

Windows updates

Hi Gang

Being I been having this problem with the updates, I have noticed several other things that are missing from a Normal XP install. I have done this install with XP enough times to where I pretty much can tell if certain things are not there. There are a lot of things in the programs under accessories that are not there. Disk clean up, defraging, system restore, etc.

How many think its a possibility to be a bum install that is causing the problems with the updates and being shy of things that come with XP install.

Thanks.......Gunny

I suggest you Perform a Repair Installation.

Also you should slipstream SP2, heres how

Slipstreaming Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Create Bootable CD

Pls note that when you install WinXP from WinXP with SP2 CD, you will never see SP2 in your add/remove program window.
