Question Lines of Code

I am looking for information on the first MS DOS (Win 3.1 i think) lines of code and XP DOS lines of code. Can someone point me in the right direction, please?

What kind of info do you need?
DOS is still a copyrighted piece of software and its doubtfull you'll fine "code." Are you by any chance looking for "commands."

I am actually looking for how many lines of code are in each program, PC DOS and Win XP,
but I believe that XP is not compatible with DOS, is that correct?

If you are trying to compare the complexity of the operating environments you would need the lines of code for MSDOS (the underlying operating system) and for WINDOWS3.1 (the GUI) to get a comparison to XP (which has both).

I'm not sure that the numbers are available. I remember that B. Gates memtioned that comparison with 3.1 when 95 was released but I don't recall hearing it again. And the numbers might be skewed beyond use because of all the things that are included in XP that didn't exist in the 3.1 timeframe.

The first MS-DOS was 1.0. Windows 1.0 through 3.11 ran on top of DOS, the last standalone version of MS-DOS was 6.22. Technically, Windows 95/98/ME ran on top of MS-DOS 7.0/7.1 but it was not a separate install. Windows NT/2K/XP have no underlying DOS.
