latest XP patch problems...

I'm having some shutdown problems caused by the .NET Security patch ( I suspect the thing of calling home as well but I haven't had time to look into it yet.) but they've been minor.

Looks like there can be worse problems though :

If you just updated and now things are "weird" check out the support link .

Thanks for the heads up, pam123. (That's also the reason I have Autoupdate turned off)

It has another problem, it fights with iTunes.
Install it and you'll have to upgrade to 7.3.1 to escape Runtime errors in 7.3 .

But arent these security patches important for WinXP computers? They keep the computer up to date and protects it from unwanted softwares and external threats.

The answer is yes but they can also cause further problems and a few have been completely ineffectual for security as well as trouble.
Which is why Microsoft releases patches for patches or issues advisories where they tell you if you're having problems after patching your system to uninstall and await a further update.
In this instance the .NET patch and the iTunes updater were having a fight and the solution was to get the latest version, 7.3.1, of iTunes.

Bottom line : Pay attention to what installs on your machine and what it does even if it comes from Redmond.
