Windows hanging when booting in safety mode. "gagp30kx.sys"
i was having problems with my wireless network, so i thought i did do a virus scan since it was over do anyways. I do my virus scan in safety mode, so what i did, i went into the msconfig, and put in checked the safeboot command (i think) in the "bootorder" (i think) tab. Now, when it boots into safety mode, it hangs at gagp30kx.sys... i googled it, and this is what i came up with:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/file....sys-7409.html but that dosn't help me much... so can anyone help plz? -thank you. |

Ok, from what im reading, you can use the repair function on the xp boot cd. One problem tho, I moved from GA to TX, and i left my cd kit back there... so i don't have my xp cd with me...

You mean to say that you typed "msconfig" in run and went to "Boot.InI" and placed a check on "Safeboot"?
Is your computer booting successfully in normal mode? When ever you want to boot your computer in safe mode, simply boot your computer and quickly keep pressing F8 button ,it will open a menu asking whether you want to boot normally or in safe mode. Highlight safe mode and then press enter. This is the most easiest way to enter safe mode. You can use an anti-virus or anti-spyware in normal mode to scan your computer for viruses or spywares. Try a system restore now, i hope it will do the job. |

yea thats what i did and it won't boot in normal mode either. how do i do a system restore without the xp cd?
thats what i did first, was press f8, and go from there, but the same thing kept happening, so i thought it might work if i went thru msconfig. i guess not, lol. |

sorry been busy. wow its been a month already.
Anyways, now i have time, so back to where i was, my computer is still messed up ![]() It comes to the screen where it lists my options: Safe mode safe mode with networking safe mode with command prompt last known good configuration start windows normally "last known good configuration" and "start windows normally" don't work. When i choose those 2 options, my computer hangs. The other safe mode option works, but it loads till "gagp30kx.sys" and then just stops... i can't figure this out at all, and google hasn't yielded anything useful yet... |

I'm afraid you need any old XP cd to do a repair install. If you don't have one, either buy one (a bit steep since you already bought it :-( Or borrow one from a neighbor/friend. You'll need a 'real' xp cd, and not a recovery CD from an HP or Dell or something. It's perfectly legal, as you have your own license key (Which is technically what you buy when you buy Windows; a license to use it).
