I'm trying to help my friend out with his laptop. He just started getting a message saying "Logon User Interface DLL athgina.dll failed" and then the option to click restart. And of course when we click restart it does the same thing over again. I'm not exactly sure what to do to fix the problem, I tried going into safe mode, but I'm not all sure what to do there. He's running XP on an Alienware laptop, if u need to know the HD size and all the other specs I can give them to you. But any help would definitely be appreciated! Thank you.

Does your friend get this error messege when the WinXP completely loads or does he get this error messege when you boot WinXP?
What i understand is that It cannot be a hardware issue, did u make any changes in the laptop before you started to get this error messege? any software, application or hardware changes? If you installed any new software or application , try uninstalling it and restart your computer . If the problem remains unsolved then go for system restore. Do this for system restore: Start-----> All programs-----> Acessories------> System Tools----> System Restore. If you havent made a system restore for your laptop then go for the default system restore which is made by the computer itself. I hope this helps, if still you find problem then return to this forum for help. |

What happens is XP will start to boot up and where a screen for his username and password would normally be we get that error message. So there's no way to get to start, and all programs and that...I tried doing a system restore as far back as I could go, which is in may and it didn't work either. The only possibly odd thing that happened right before it started doing this was my friend was online not downloading anything, but a message popped up telling him to authenticate Norton, he has Norton, but it was up to date and all that, so when he clicked the X to close it, the system pretty much crashed and restarted and he's been getting that message ever since.
