Unequal memory noted

Hello again
I have a new computer with Vista pre installed running 4 gig of memory. While restarting I find it will not boot. I have to push the power button numerous times for it to boot.
First error message while booting I received was... Firmware has detected system memory has decreased. Later on I received the same message with an additional message. Memory in channel A is not equal to memory in channel B. Max. memory is achieved with equal amounts of memory installed in each channel

I tried downloading Belarc advisor to get some stats but either the website or my computer wouldn't open the download site. Maybe someone can give me the link to Belarc or the sister site who's name I can't remember

Guess I'll be calling Gateway

Thanks

Are you running the 32bit version that doesn't handle more then 3gigs?

Try running memtest86. It's possible that one or more sticks of RAM are bad.

Hello Forceflow
I just ran Vista's built in memory tester and although it came clean and found no errors initially when I set it to scan an error box popped up saying there was an error preventing the computer to be restarted

I will check further but I think it may be more of a restart problem. I used the shut down option and it started back up find when I pressed the power button

I'll keep you posted

Vista's memory tester doesn't work flawlessly, often missing memory errors that would otherwise be picked up with memtest86.

I'll give it a go. In the mean time Gateway sent me a link for a "Startup repair". I'll let you know how it goes

Thanks
