Can't figure out why XP won't install
I only changed one thing in the BIOS before attempting install. Default DDR2 voltage is 1.8v. My RAM calls for 2.0-2.3v and timings of 4-4-3-5. I upped the voltage to 2.1v and left the timings at the Mobo/SPD default of 5-5-5-15. Memory passes bootable Memtest at both voltages.
Hopefully someone can suggest some troubleshooting I haven't thought of: I began by flashing the newest BIOS v.14. Began XP install, f6 for Raid drivers and everything is going perfectly. I get to the first Windows screen where you select your Time Zone, comp name etc. Click through and XP finishes install, reboots and upon reboot, comes to a screen that says Windows did not start correctly and that it might be a hardware change. I try to start windows normally, BSOD(happens so fast I can't get any error codes) & restart. I try all 3 safe modes listed. Same result. So next, I try to install to just one HDD to see if the Raid setup is the problem. This time, set up copies all files and on the first reboot simply starts set up all over again from scratch as if I were starting from the beginning. For some reason, it seems the board is having difficulty booting from a hard drive. HDDs are known to be good. They are the same 3 I had in RAID0 on my previous KN8-SLI setup. The F10 raid screen says the array is healthy. Swapped the PSU for an Ultra 550W SLI PSU that has been working perfectly for quite some time with the same result in the second try. My next thought is to flash back to BIOS v.12 and see if it's related to the newest BIOS. Any other thoughts for me? My config: Abit Fatal1ty FP-IN9 SLI Intel E6320 1.86ghz 2GB Gskill DDR2-800 EVGA 8800 GTS 640MB 3x WD Caviar in Raid0 |

It's the MOBO
It's the motherboard. Tried a different vid card, different ram with the same results. I then loaded windows onto one of the drives via USB/external case. The board boots from an external drive. So maybe something is wrong with the Sata Controller or the SB chip? I went and bought a cheap ECS board and the install went flawlessly. Everything works as it should, so I have to believe the Abit board is defective.
