PC locks up or freezes NEED HELP
During casual use of my PC sometimes I can go 2 days before it locks up or freezes. My mouse will just stop moving or if I am listening to something you will hear that sound just repeat over and over. I cannot do anything, everything just comes to a halt!
I have to reboot the PC by holding in the POWER button and hopefully get lucky that it does not lock up again. It seems to be the same pattern over and over, works for 1 or days then locks up, and when it locks/freezes up and happens maybe 3-6 times before I can get it started again to work for 1 or 2 days straight without interruption. If someone can help I would really appreciate it. Here are the specs: Operating System System Model Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (build 2600) VIA Technologies, Inc. Have you opened up the case and cleaned out your computer yet? If it's dusty in there you need to clean it out really well. Dust build up can cause a computer to overheat and an overheating computer will lock up or freeze.
Is this a home built or name brand computer? What brand power supply are you using? Do you scan the computer regularly with updated security scanners? Cricket
