I d/l the chipset id tools and found out I had the 815EP chipset, d/l the newest drivers and such (17mb) but when I install the pc locks up on reboot when going into "found new hardware" mode..If I uninstall pc works fine , but i need to get the sound fixed as i have a unhappy 8 year old that I am trying to help.....
Please give any and all replies....'
as far as I can tell sound is enabled in the bios as this was once a pc in a work environment ....
no I don`t want to "nuke and pave".....
so , let`s hear those suggestions ....
And away we gooooooooooooo.......
Thanks
Dick

No help here! The generic Intel driver may not work on a non-Intel manufactured board. How about opening the case and examining the motherboard for any markings that can give us a clue to the manufacturer and model.

Or download and install Belarc Advisor. It should help you.

Ed, that looks like an excerpt from a Belarc report. I've seen that a lot with Belarc - it can't ID real cheap offbrand boards.

A sound card looks like the best solution, just make sure you turn off the onboard in the bios.
