Bootup problems - Blank screen

hi, I'm new to this forum and I am trying to help my mom fix a problem with her laptop.

The laptop is an HP DV2120us running windows xp media center edition with an AMD turion 64 x 2 CPU. The video card is integrated with Nvidia Geforce Go 6150.

My mom recently installed a USB microphone and she was playing a game called reel deel casino. Right after the game started up, the screen turned all different funny colors (sorry about being vague) and froze. She did a forced shut down, and now when we turn on the laptop, the screen is blank. Nothing appears on the screen, not even the HP logo. There is also no mouse cursor.

The fans are operational, and the media buttons are illuminated. I hear the hard drive start up right when I turn it on and the light for the hard drive illuminates, but no further things from the hard drive are heard. The CD drive also spins.

I have tried removing the battery and I have tried hooking it up to the power source already. No luck. I have even tried hooking it up to another monitor but that doesn't even get a signal. Because I am not getting a screen, I also cannot boot into safe mode or into windows period.

I am sorry if this problem is already posted, but any answers are appreciated.

j9, welcome aboard!

You might try booting from the Windows CD. You said you heard the HDD spin up right away, but then nothing. See if the CD gives you anything.

If it doesn't...well, first thing I'd do is look at my warranty.

Hitchface,

Thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately, the laptop was pre-loaded with windows xp and there was no CD that came with it. My mom did order recovery CDs for the laptop through HP, but I tried using the recovery CDs and nothing happened

I figured out that the culprit was the video card sadly. I can't do anything about that besides looking at the warranty and scheduling a repair since I can't just go and buy another video card and the whole motherboard now needs to be replaced..

Thanks again.
