i got a quick question not related to this thread. how do i start my own thread about a problem i am having with "no boot device detected-system halted"? or any infomation anyone can tell me about it i would appreciate. the computer was working fine and i left it on one nite but when i tried to use the next morn there was an error and i got this message when i tried to reboot. i dont think there was a power surge but even if there was i have a surge protector installed. can anyone help me? thank you. my name on this site is "brawnyman"

Welcome to PCMech. Looks like you started your own thread. Can you tell us a bit about your system specs? Have you added any hardware to it lately? How many hard drives do you have installed? It's possible that something might have happened to your system BIOS settings that changed the boot order. If that's the case, you should be able to press the Delete key (or whatever F-key your system says) in order to enter BIOS as the system tries to boot. From there, you should be able to find a menu on Boot Order and see if you can switch the hard drive listed to the one that contains your Operating System.

May we know your OS, HDD, RAM and other hardware configuration?

Make sure that your power cord and data cable are properly plugged into the HDD?

If still you face such problem then go into your BIOS setup and check in the boot device ,whether your hard drive is detected by your system or not?
