My computer will stay stable for no more than 15-20 minutes, then I get the blue screen. It seems quite random. It hasnt crashed during gaming, and installing windows updates sets it off every time.

Thanks for the replies -

I ran memtest86+ for about 5 1/2 hours and it did not encounter any errors. Does it need to complete? here is a shot of the memtest screen:

I also took a pic of the BSOD as well - googling the error code didn't get me anywhere though.

What kind of computer is this? Home built or name brand?

Do the BSODs happen randomly with any program open? Or does it happen only in one program?

Do you know the complete system specs for your computer?

What kind of background programs are running on this computer?

My computer is home built.

I am running Windows XP sp2
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Processor S939 Venice 2.0GHZ 512K L2 Cache 90NM
ASUS A8N-E Motherboard ATX S939 NFORCE4 Ultra DDR PCI-E16 PCI-E4
EVGA E-GEFORCE 6600GT 128M DDR3 PCI-E VGA DVI HD Out Video Card

The BSODs happen after 15 minutes of my computer running tops. It doesnt matter what programs I use or if I just leave it sitting.

Background programs (My understanding of background programs could not be right) include quicktime, AVG, and windows live messenger

Check the inside of your computer. If the processor (or really any device inside or connected to the computer) gets hot enough (or is defective) it can cause a BSOD. I'm not sure how long you've had your computer, but maybe check if there's any dust in there (you may want to blow some compressed air through there anyway - particularly the processor and proc fan). Are you trying to overclock your processor or anything else in the system? That could do it easily. Also, have you tried running your computer in safe mode? Unless you've overclocked your processor or screwed with system settings you're not familiar with, safe mode could help determine whether the problem is with hardware or software. With the amount of information given at this point, there are a ton of possibilities.

Hope this helps.

Since it seems to be a problem with updates, see if you can uninstall updates in Add/Remove Programs and see if that works (though not all updates will allow you to uninstall them). If that still doesn't work you might want to contact Microsoft about it.
