Question XP Home- no admin privileges

Hello all, I was doing some regular maintenance on my computer when I found that I could not change the startup programs. Windows was recognizing the account I was using as a limited account, not an administrator. This is the only account on the system, so it has to be an administrator account. Why is it not recognizing this account as an admin???

Boot it in safe mode to get access to the Administrator account.

I tried booting up in safe mode, and logged on to the default "Administrator" account but was still unable to change startup programs. I also created another admin account, but that didn't work either.

How are you changing startup programs? Using msconfig?

You can use a direct registry edit or HijackThis to get rid of startup programs.

There are many places where Windows can be set to start up programs. First, the Startup directory of the Start menu can have an icon pointing to that program. The registry can also have more than one different place to have a program start up (look for Run and Runonce). MSconfig can also control some of that as well.
