Getting the install wizard to go away (usb printer question)

We're setting up an office in my boss's basement. He's got an older PC running Windows XP. We've hooked up an old Lexmark printer / fax machine to the computer and it does everything we need it to do as is. It appears however, that the drivers for the printer were never actually installed.

So... given that the printer is working fine right now and i don't know where the CD that came with it is... here's my question (and I know I can get online and download the drivers if I need to but just humor me)

everytime we power the computer on we get the Installation wizard opening up and asking us to insert the CD or if it can go online and look for drivers, blah, blah, blah. Is there a way to tell Windows to 'leave it alone and forget about it'?

Hopefully this makes sense..

if you could get the drivers, why wouldn't you?

seems like that would make the message go away.

I know it sounds silly. I'm more or less trying to wrap my head around a how the Found New Hardware wizard works. It seems to have a mind of its own sometimes and I've sort of become the de facto I.T. guy at my company so I'm just curious if there IS a way to tell the Wizard to piss off?

this is as much a hypothetical question as it is a technical one...

In other words, you are trying to find an easy way out for not following the correct installation procedure. Go get the drivers. If you are now the de facto IT guy, you need to do it by the book.
