Need help with this file

I downloaded a file and this file showed up on my desktop.

B1FBE4C773BEA86A898E96625BAAA01382C8B99338BEC8AAB3BBD39584ECEE46CD05A6B653BDC78E95918D8667CCC0347902 E9D474C0AC56C4BED2bd4b19b5

It has no .jpg or any other .

It looks like a note pad file but when I open it it looks like att. please check

Can you tell me how to find out what it is?

what were you trying to download?

that looks bad. i would just delete and try downloading again.

and make sure you're scanning your downloads

what happens when you rename it "something.jpg"?

No I did get my download ok. But this file just showed up a second after.

did you scan it to make sure it's not a virus or malware?

and did you download froma repitable site? if so, you might want to let them know about that.

Yes I scanned with Nod32 and nothing bad.

If it's really a jpg, I'm wondering if it's possible that the image data breaks upon transmission (corrupted header information?). Also, is there a possibility that the default viewer information could have changed at some point?

Another possibility, how up to date is your antivirus?

Good point. How can I verifie if it's a .jpg or any other file? Is there a way?

As far as I know, the computer looks up that information in the file header, and if that's corrupted, then the computer will believe whatever other information is supplied for the file type. There may be programs, though, that can look at the make up of the file and determine what it is. I don't know of any other such programs however, just guessing. Someone else might know.

Is this the first time you've had such file download issues?
