Windows Installer Problem
Hello,
I have a Dell Inspiron 1200 notebook with Win XP Home that constantly launches Windows installer for programs that are already installed and has become quite annoying to say the least. I removed one of the programs using Add/remove programs since I didnt use the program anyway but now Windows installer launches for another program. I ran a virus scan which came up clean. Any help on how to fix this problem would be appreciated. Thanks, cv6 |

Did you create a new Windows User right before this started?
What happens when pop in the cd that the installer is looking for and let it get the files it wants?

No I had not created any new users. It just kind of started out of the blue. The programs it keeps trying to install are ones that came pre-installed from Dell ie. Word Perfect ect.. so I do not have a disc unless the files are on the recovery disk. Thks, cv6 |

What antivirus and antimalware scanners have you tried?
Have you attempted to clean the registry with a known good registry cleaner like CCleaner?

I use Avast anti-virus. Is Ad_aware "anti mal-ware" software as I do have that installed but have not run it yet. Let me try running Ccleaner and see if that helps. thks, cv6 |

Spybot Search & Destroy I found will do a *much* better job at detecting malware than Adaware will do. Spybot S&D and Spywareblaster seem to do a great job. I think Lavasoft is just trying to pull consumers slowly more and more away from their free product to their supposedly more functional more advanced pay-for products.
