Restore to factory settings

hey guys,

i've tried to look around a bit on this forum and others but I haven't managed to find an answer, so sorry if this question has already been answered.

I have an ASUS laptop bought about 3 years ago and I wan't to pass it on to my sister. However there's loads of crap on it and it's running pretty slow so I was told i should restore it to factory settings. I have two receovery cd-roms that were provided with my laptop but nothing happens when I put them in.

Can anybody give me any pointers on what i could do?

thanks!

Have you tried putting the discs in while windows is running and then restarting? Most recovery discs are boot discs. If this doesnt do anything, you probably need to change the boot order in the bios. Let me know if you need any more info.

yeah i've tried to restart the laptop with the disks in it but it just starts normally.
Is there anyway to 'force' the computer to use the boot cds?

how do i change the boot order?

Go into the bios (press the button it says when the logo is showing right at the start, usually delete or f1) then look for a boot tab (the bios is keyboard only) And change the boot order so cd/dvdrom is first then the harddrive. save and exit the bios. It should then boot from the cd.

hey,
so the laptop started the recovery process and it was nearly finished.
Now it's asking 'Please insert Driver CD into CD-ROM and press any kee to continue...'
But apart from the two recovery CDs I can't find any 'driver' cd?

is it possible to download and burn this from somewhere or something?
