INF File txtsetup.sif corrupt or missing

Before anyone says anything, I've searched but I didn't find one that really hit my error on the head.

A few days ago, my laptop decided not to fully boot and froze so I shut it off. On reboot it wanted to run chckdisk, however, it froze at 9% and then went to a blue screen with vertical stripes. I panicked and thought it died. My dad got it to boot in safe mode (finally) and tried to run chckdisk that way, but same result (just a black screen instead of blue).

So I decided to back up my important data and do a restore. I went to the restore on my laptop (Acer Laptop) and it said it worked but on reboot I got this error (INF FILE txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing).

So I then tried to do a complete format and reinstall with my backup disks...with the same result. I've seen that people said it is a hardware error (usually a CD-ROM or CD error) but since my error came up when trying to restore without a CD, I'm wondering what people think? My dad seems to think it is a hard drive error because of the fact that it didn't want to run chckdisk.

It is still under warranty (only 10 months old) and I am probably going to take it in but I wanted to ask for opinions first and advice.

Thanks to anyone who can offer assistance in any shape or form.

(Also, I was going to attempt the Microsoft Book Disks thing but since I don't have a floppy drive, I'm afraid that won't work. )

Oops forgot to add that the error message is ALL The laptop will do besides go into setup. It won't go to the boot screen (when I press F8) and windows does not load even though when I did the restore from the disks it said the restore was complete but on restart, the same error comes up and that's all it does.

Have you tried some different memory? Or, if you have more than one stick of memory in there, try using just one stick at a time to see if one works and the other one doesn't. If one doesn't work then that stick is probably bad.

Unfortunately, I do not have extra memory, hard drive, or anything else just lying around and even if I did, I wouldn't have the first clue what to do with it. Thanks though

Send it back for repairs as it's under warranty. You've pretty much done everything you can do - and all without voiding your warranty by opening the machine up.

You can run memory and hard drive diags from a bootable CD. I recommend memtest86+ (www.memtest.org) and if you cannot determine the brand of hard drive, Hitachi Drive Fitness Test (www.hgst.com).

You will need a CD burner and software that is capable of burning a CD from an .iso file. Nero and Roxio are capable, as is the free Deepburner.
