more memory problems

XPPro 1.5 GB w/ 2 HD (250 GB (main use) & 120 GB for backups) Backup HD had 3 files ( folder w/ all installed programs (8 GB) and 2 backup files (used Backup from system programs) @ 43 GB each). Attempted 3rd backup, but cancelled due to lack of disk space. Deleted oldest file and retried backup. No could do-not enough space. When I open the backup HD, I now see 2 files, 8GB & 43 GB on 120 GB drive. When I check the properties of the HD, I see it has a capacity of 111 GB, with 98.5 GB used and 13 GB available. Seems to me that I am missing some 50GB of space. How do I free this space up? Virtual memory settings are custom: 2500 MB initial & 4096 max. Why is memory such a problem? I am always having to reboot machine to free up memory for my hungriest programs.

System memory and drive storage space are two complete different things...or are you asking two different questions (how to free up disk space and how to manage system memory)?

Turn off system restore on the drive then run chkdsk /f on it.

Cricket: disk memory was the problem. I included Ram/Virtual memory info in case it was relevant.

GLC: followed your dirs, but no change in available space on disk. I ended up reformating the HD to free up disk space. Thanks for your suggestion
