putting in email account settings Outlook OE6
I seem to find myself setting up more and more email accounts, i can set up the accounts from home by accessing the web portal for 1and1 but...
is there a way to send someone all the settings they need to make the outlook/OE6 work rather than me talking them thru it or doing it myself on site(20 mile trip). (dont really want to get into remote access) ie: username passwords, pop and smtp values, authentication and server ports etc I see that some ISPs can get there settings in place when you install there software on your system or even of the internet automatically, is there an application or way i can do it for my clients such as an email attachment or downloaded from my webspace, that they just click on and hey presto start collecting and sending email.

Yes. Set it up on your own machine, then export it to an .iaf file. Send them the file and tell them to import it.

Every ISP I have ever dealt with has instructions on their support page for configuring Outlook Express, if I uderstand correctly as to what you are asking. It walks the customer through step by step with pop server and smtp servers included.

He wants a semi-automatic way to do it, and the .iaf file does exactly that.

thanks again GLC, i can get this to work with OE6 but i cant seem to make it work with Outlook 2003.
OL2003 says it cannot find the IAF file and wants to import from OE6. ideally id like to get the settings direct into OL2003, maybe i can point them to the folder on the HDD where the IAF would be stored? found this online but i cant work out what it does. http://www.motobit.com/util/iaf-generator.asp Last edited by lostplanet; 09-13-2007 at 05:24 AM. |

Import IAF configuration file to an Outlook 2003 / Outlook XP
You cannot directly import IAF files from Email Configuration Exporter to Outlook 2003. You can use simple workaround: Run Outlook express Go to Tools menu, Accounts item, click Import button Select an IAF configuration file you want to import Import the file, click close, close Outlook express Run Outlook Outlook will ask to import the new account from Outlook Express |

I had the same problem with trying to talk people through it until I began sending them directly to their ISP. Even a fool can follow the instructions for configuring OE and from there it's a simple matter to import to Outlook, as GLC said.
I simply quit configuring customer's e-mail and by sending them to their ISP to follow the instructions they actually learn something. -Kev |

ok with outlook what i've decided to do is setup the account on a empty outlook and then save it as a .PST file and get them to import it that way.
should save me some time, thanks all. |
