I need help w/ OEM requirement for Win XP Home.
I plan to purchase this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116056 ,but something about it puzzled meh. The Disclaimer said that I need the receipt of Mother, CPu etc etc. The thing is I am buying online and how I am going to prove that to MS?
Btw, receipt for online purchase, Newegg, is the invoice right? Thanks |

If it's OEM, you should be able to install it on any computer. If it's brand new in the box then it hasn't been activated before there should be no issues with proving anything to Micr$.

Nope, my CPU and Mother are here already. The only two thing left for me to order are Optical drive and HD, plus that OS. Kev I would have purchase the retail version, but it is SO freaking expensive. I mean the only differences between OEM and Retail are liek the manual or wat/ever and some color paper right? is it? |

Pretty much and the "manual" is no such thing.
OEM is generally for those who are building PC's and stores usually require that you buy some piece of hardware with it. I've gotten away with buying a $10 floppy drive before... BTW, by today's standards that is still expensive. I saw home for $69 somewhere recently. Unfortunately I don't remember where it was. Have your tried outpost.com or computerstop.com? -K Last edited by kev7555; 09-15-2007 at 08:13 PM. |

I bought mine from EBAY, unopend, and got a peice of 'peripheal hardware' with it . Works great, 100% legal, and cheap.

Vista home basic is nearly $200 unless you are usiung an upgrade disk, which I would never do. As a matter of fact, I would never touch Vista again.

That is a very debatable question. Some people hate it, some people are fine with it. Look around in the Vista forum.

Some retailers will sell you the OEM OS regardless of that disclaimer - lots in the UK do. Chances are they will also. If they don't just purchase any of the other hardware you have to get at the same time. |
