Resources low and Mastercook

I used to run Mastercook fine with Windows 98, now I'm using Windows XP Home Ed. 2002 SP.2 and whenever I have tried running Mastercook 9 it says "Windows resources are dangerously low......". I defragged, ran System Mechanic 7 ( all is in good health) even switched to Mastercook 7 thinking I may have gotten a bum disc with 9. Still the same thing.

I have tried setting my virtual memory, it has initial size of 2MB and max of 1822MB but will not let me set paging to anything above 1215MB, don't know what that all means.

I have more than plenty of disc space and ram but it just keeps doing the same thing. All my other programs work fine.

Software designer (ValuSoft) isn't much help at all, just says to return product if defrag hasn't worked.
Any help is greatly appreciated, I really need to use Mastercook for cost analysis, unless someone knows another program that does the same.
Thanks, Teresa

Right-click the shortcut to the program, click on the compatability tab and select Windows 98. I am somewhat doubtful of that working though.

Actually I believe Windows 98 is still on the original hard drive I don't use but is still in the computer. I can look at the files on that drive and see Windows but can't really see what version it is, I believe 98 is the last one I had. What now!

If you still have the install cd you may be able to still use the program. Download and install Virtual PC from the MS site (it's free). Then install windows 98 into that. Any program that ran in 98 should run fine in the virtual machine created in virtual pc. There is also another program that does the same thing as virtual PC but I can't remember the name right now. It is also free.

You running Mastercook on a new PC or a machine that has been upgraded from Win98 to XP?

If the latter was Mastercook installed before the XP upgrade? If so it could be possible it's corrupted or has settings stored from the Win98 install. Remove (un-install via Add/Remove), delete all other traces of it and then re-install.

Though the VMWare is a good solution.
