Exclamation NORTON ANTIVIRUS on WIN2000

The NORTON Corporate Edition icon in the system tray has a yellow excaimation mark on it.

I went into the application log and this was the error:

Norton AntiVirus services failed to start. Virus definition file is invalid. (CC001000)

also the next line up was the message:

Could not start Service Engine err=CC001000

When I tried to start the Norton Service this was the message:

Could not start the Norton Antivirus Service on Local Computer

Error 10: The environment is incorrect

I would suggest downloading AVG anti-virus and cross checking the machine with that. Also, if you are not already using them, download AdAware SE free edition, Spybot Search and Destroy and Spywareblaster.

There are several spyware variants which disable anti-virus programs and diasable Windows firewall.

Spybot can usually remove them. If not, try running in safe mode.
