Vaio Laptop (W98 OS) Won't Shut Down
A friend's Vaio (F-430) laptop, running under Windows 98, suddenly refuses to shut down.
It will restart just fine, but no normal shutdown. We recently installed Filseclab Personal Firewall and Avast! Anti-Virus--and the Filseclab icon no longer appears in the System Tray. As a matter of fact, the Avast! icon is the ONLY icon to appear in the System Tray now.... Is there some kind of connection with the failure to shut down and the disappearing incons? |

Did you verify that those 2 pieces of software are compatible with 98? 98 is getting a little long in the tooth. I'd remove them one at a time and see if one of them is causing the shut down issues. If that doesn't work, try this page for ideas.

Both those applications claim to work OK with Windows 98...
I'll try your suggestion about uninstalling each one, and see how the shutdown goes, accordingly. Thanks |
