Windows 98 install problems
Hi, I recently formatted my hard drive and tryed to install windows 98, but it got stuck on a screen that said "Disk Write Error, Unable to write to c" Now I deleted my old partitions which was "ntfs" and created a normal dos partition and then formatted my c drive and tryed to install 98. Towards the end of the install, it went to a screen saying please allow a few more minutes to configure some files and then came up with that error above. I've tryed everything i can think of disabling network adapters and formatting again. If anyone could help out it would be greatly appreciated. thanks

How big is the drive and the C partition? If it's bigger then 32gigs, try makeing the C parition smaller.

what operating system did you use to create the DOS partition? If it was the underlying DOS from 98 you may have a partition that is too small.

Well, its like a 80 gig drive. I booted up from a win 98 boot-up disk and went into fdisk and deleted the old partition and created one primary dos partition. Should i make a extended as well? It was the old win 98 edfair

Did you make the partition 100% of the drive? When the drive is over 64gb, 98's FDISK has a bug, you have to use percentages, not megabytes, when you are partitioning.

Thanks for everyones help. I finally got windows installed. I partitioned my drive into c and d and changed my boot configuration to boot from a cd, and finally was able to get windows xp installed. Only problem i'm having now is for some reason i cannot find out my sound card model to download the driver. I've tried dxdiag and i also went into device manager and looked in there and all i get is audio controller. Do you think i may have a damaged sound card since i cant find the model anywhere? It's a onboard soundcard.

If you can tell us the computer brand and model, or if it's a custom, the motherboard brand and model, we can find the drivers for you. There are probably more drivers that you need for proper performance - such as chipset drivers.
