Security? Problem

Security Tool Bar 7.1 has appeared on my Menu Bar. When I click it to go to its website my security program describes it as a problem site - malware etc. I have tried to find it on my hard disc but cannot. Is it really harmful and how can I remove it.

I run XP Home, macafee, Ccleaner.

Any suggestions?

See if this site helps.

You need more security software than that. Security Tool Bar 7.1 (ZLob / Smitfraud variant) is a trojan and you need security software that can detect and remove spyware/malware too, not just viruses (McAfee isn't very good). See this thread for discussion on antivirus and antispyware software. SuperAntiSpyware and Spyware Terminator are mentioned...you might want to download and install these on your computer along with SpywareBlaster, Ad-Aware SE, Spybot: Search & Destroy, AVG Antispyware, AVG Antivirus (or AVAST! or AntiVIR) for more system protection.

Cricket gives good advice. Just want to clarify a bit. You don't want to download and install ALL of them. You only want one resident Anti-virus running at a time or they kind of interfere with each other. And slow things down. I have AVAST! installed on 3 systems and think very highly of it. The free version of AVAST is better than the pay version of Norton or McAfee. Anyting is better than Norton.
You can get 2 or 3 of the spyware checkers that you run when you choose to. Like once a week. I don't have a favorite spyware checker they all seem to have their strengths and weaknesses.
