Can't Get SP 2
I reloaded XP, got all the updates including SP 1. When I do another update it says I need SP 2, which I know. When I select it to download, a box comes up for downloading but just sits there. Tried it for 2 days now. Never had the problem before.

Which way are you trying to download it?
I usually just use the network install http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en You can get it from Windows update also.

Sarge, I can burn you a cd of SP2 if you want to drive to LBJ and Preston Road to get it.
If so, send me a PM with your phone number.

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
I had to add the urls to the Trusted Zone, then it worked. Strange, I got the other updates w/o the urls. Or perhaps the download just decided to happen anyway, even if I hadn't added them. Anyway, I now have it. I never remember having those urls before, but then I never checked the past years to see. |

. Beyond me how one could burn a copy to a cd, but at one time would certainly have figured out how. All is well now anyway. BTW, I don't envy anyone driving to that locale on a daily trek, especially if that's your job site - a nightmare for anyone. However, would do so if necessary.

Very simple - you download the network install, it's a single .exe file, you burn it to a CD!

I keep the network install on my flash drive. It generally installs easier than the online install anyway.

If memory serves the 75mb version is just an installer that downloads the rest of SP2. Furthermore, if you get the 'full' admin version, burn to disk then you won't need to download it again. An even better option would be to slipstream it into your current XP disk; if it is an original non-SP1 disk you won't need SP1 as SP2 supersedes it. Don't know about anyone else, but I've noticed that using M$ updates to install SP2 uses far more hdd space than just the admin install of it. |
