BSOD: Stop 0x00000024 - solution...

Had a couple issues over the weekend, so I decided to post them here...

1st issue...my cousin brought me her HP Laptop with a BSOD. The exact error it was giving was STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00190203, 0x84B75828, 0xc0000102, 0x00000000). It would not boot into Windows at all, meaning no Safe Mode either. I googled the error but was not getting anything on it. So I proceeded as follows...

1. I ran Memtest86 to check the ram and it passed all tests. The BIOS was accessible and it has a HDD diagnostic built in so I just ran the quick version and the HDD passed.
2. Next I pulled the memory sticks and swapped them. Still got the same BSOD.
3. I pulled the wireless NIC card and attempted to boot without it, but it gave the BSOD again.
4. I went to the HP site and looked around the Support & Troubleshooting area. Which led me to this site... Updatexp Based on the info there and this MSKB Article, the error was pointing to a corrupted Ntfs.sys driver.
5. Both articles assume that one has access to the Windows Desktop, alas I did not. (The MS article also states that it applies only to Windows 2000.) So I removed the HDD, stuck it in the USB enclosure, connected it to my desktop and sure enough, Windows would not recognize the main partition, only the Recovery Partition HP put on there.
6. Opened up a CMD box, typed in chkdsk driveletter: /f . It quickly repaired the NTFS volume.

As soon as it was done, Windows recognized it and began autoplaying the contents. I put it back in the notebook, selected Start Windows Normally, and the lil guy booted right up. Anyhow, there's a bit of information I hope helps someone out there...below is a condensed version. (Sorry about the length)

1. Ran Memtest89 and BIOS HDD diagnostic, both passed.
2. Removed and installed RAM in opposite slots. Still BSOD.
3. Removed Wireless NIC, powered up, still BSOD.
4. Google not much help, searched HP support site, found 2 articles indicating corrupted Ntfs.sys driver.
5.Put notebook HDD in USB enclosure and ran chkdsk X: /f, repaired NTFS volume.
6.Put back in notebook and booted up just fine, Problem solved.

Hope that is useful to someone.
