sw issues on winxp
Warning! Potential Spyware Operation
Your computer is making unauthorized copies of your system and internet files. Run full scan now to prevent any unauthorized access to your files! Click YES to download spyware remover... Hey guys, hope everything is well in the internet world! Got a call this morning from a friend who begged me over the phone to come over and take a look at his computer for him so that I can rid him of this headache which seems like someone may have been trying to enter his system. Also his computer time is incorrect. I go adjust the time in the time settings by clicking the clock, and after a few days the clock still messes up. I tried to reset the time in the bios, and once again its still messed up. Anywho, back to the reason im here in the first place. Im currently downloading AVG Anti Spyware 7.5 from ewido.net, just looking for a backup plan to resolve the issue if this one doesnt fix the issue. I also cleared all startup items in the MS Config section of the computer, but waiting to see if it works. I see I am the only one browsing this forum as a member, just trying to see if theres a way to fix it before the scan completes so i can get this over and fixed. Thanks in advance. BTW heres his build info GATEWAY 702GE WinXP SP2 Browser Firefox |

I don't think AVG will get the job fixed. Be sure to run it in safe mode. I only suggest this so that the startup programs don't run. I would probably do a sweep of the registry and clean all adaware and maleware out of the system. You might also run a rootkit identifier.
You sound like you are pretty tech savvy, but I do have free programs that I can point you to if you need a little assistance. |

Download and run "combo fix". This program repaired a similar infection for a customer last week. When it has completed, boot into safe mode and run all of your regular AV and AS programs.
If you don't already have it, download and run ccleaner when everything else is done running. -Kev
