Dual booting with thirdparty software on third partition

didn't quite know where to put this and I don't know if it is even possible.

I want to do a dual boot of vista and XP. I hate installing things, re installing things, ect just to install the OS.

Is it possible to install the OS's on say 60 GB partitions and then have all the programs, documents, user setttings, ect on a third partition accessed by the OS's?

I guess it would be like having one program file folder for both Vista and XP. Any Suggestions or places that I might look to accomplish this would be great. TIA.

If while booted up in Vista you could install an app to another partition BUT XP would be able to use it....Have to install a second time.

Recomend you decide which will be the main OS and install most of the apps there.

I wouldn't recommend it. You are dealing with completely different permission sets between the OS.
I might work just fine, but I can easily see this having problems down the road.

Most applications when installed make MANY entries to the registry and copy files to the windows folders...register dll's etc.etc....

If you install an app while running Vista, you can't get the installation to add the entries to XP's registry etc...
