lsass.exe what's going on?

For the past week or so, when I attempt to load any pgm in the morning (PC is powered on all night) my computer just hangs, with the Windows Timer showing. I'll go into the Task Manger (which can take 1-2 minutes to start) and I see isass.exe is hogging almost all my CPU. The only way to stop this is to reboot. I've googled lsass.exe and see it is an important windows item. Just to be sure I am not infected with the sasser worm (isass, exe) I run the most recent malicious tool removal pgm. I can't seem to find any more info about this lsass file and why it hogs all mu cpu or why a reboot seems to stop it. One site I visited says that lsass.exe should only be in C:\WINDOWS\system32, yet when I do a search, I find a folder named lsass.exe located in C:\WINDOWS\config. When I opened that file, my anti virus popped up and indicated 2 items (Rbot.) were low threats, but removed them. Left in the config folder is a folder icon named lsass.exe. Properties tells me it was created on 9/12, but unable to open, so I am assuming it is not a folder. When scanned, no virus is evident. Any thoughts as to what I should do? Thanks

You still have malware - use some more scanners.

GLC,
Thanks for your response. I've used all the 'anti' software I have: The CA Suite from Roadrunner, Ad-ware & Spybot. Can you suggest another that might be of help? Should I delete the lsass.exe file in Windows;\Config ?
