Problems With XP Install !!
Greetings:
Here are three post that describes my frustrating situation....any..any..help would be greatly appreciated....Im stuck and have spent hours upon hours trying to get xp to install.... Greetings, I am having problems installing XP. I have a brand new WD Raptor SATA Hard Drive. I am connecting via a CompUSA Serial ATA PCI Card. During install it states that it cannot find the mass storage device and to click S to install from floppy....so I copied fromt the CD disc over to floppy and when I press S ... It does see the driver and does install (or I think) It then actually goes on and lets me format After it formats, it restarts with the xp disc and then it states : Setup cannot copy the file: si3112.sys To Retry, press Enter Any ideas? --------------------------------------------------- Ok..this is getting weird...I installed a totally different WD IDE hard drive from a ATA PCI Card extension. I am now getting : Cannot find Ultra.inf after the system formats the hard drive? Any correlations. Im starting to think this is a motherboard issue. In both cases the initial boot up process recognized the correct Hard drive in the bios. So strange. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ----------------------------------------------- There has got to be something going on with the pci slot that is converting over for the EIDE Drive ribbon cable. What is the deal here? Motherboard driver issue? Thanks, Nascar |

Is the XP cd you're using an Original one?
The cd or cd drive could be dirty and would cause the file not found issue.

What is the model of the motherboard - or if it's a name brand computer, the computer model? Why are you using a card instead of the motherboard controller?

Welcome to PC Mech.
We may need more info about yous system to give a good answer to your question. Make and model of computer or make and model of the motherboard would be a good place to start. As GLC said you should use the motherboard connections if possible. If the Motherboard has SATA connectors use those. More likely to work right than a PCI card. |

This sounds almost like the drivers for the PCI card are not installed. I'm thinking that is why XP can't see anything connected to it.
Have you tried plugging your hard drive directly to the motherboard (without the PCI card)? -Kev

For those who have responded...thank you so much.... I am still in the troubleshooting stages and will keep everyone updated...Im am receiving some very eratic behavior...keyboard works sometimes..sometimes not...cd drive recognizes cd sometimes...then gives off non-system disc error....very very strange...perhaps its posessed and I need a priest over to cast out the evil??
At any rate...Ill post asap. thanx, Jon |
