Installation Problems with XP
Well I got one problem solved only to run into another. I got the computer to run, went to the bios to check to make sure it read my new hard drive correctly and then let it go ahead and load Windows XP on to the new hard drive. As it was loading half the files didn't want to load and when it was restarted it came up with this error Stop: C0000221 unknown hard error\systemroot/system32/ntdll.dll on a blue screen. I can't get past this and have read about the possible causes of this error, but they don't seem to apply to me. The hard drive is new and so is the copy of Windows XP. I am not sure what steps to try and take now.

AMD Athalon 2500, A Soyo Dragon Motherboard (don't know model, can't access and don't have paperwork), currently running 256 ram, just installed a Maxor Diamond Max Ata/100 harddrive, standard cd rom, Geforce video card(don't remember which one there either). That is about all I can tell you on it.

256MB of RAM isn't enough to run WinXP smoothly. And with the problem you're having it sounds as if your current RAM may be faulty or WinXP has a problem with it (RAM that worked with Win98, WinME or Win2000 didn't always work with WinXP). You might want to test it with Memtest86+ or just replace it with two 512MB sticks of RAM from Corsair or Crucial.
Also check the capacitors on the motherboard for bulging or leaking. Cricket

I had 512 ram in there and apparently it quit working. So in order to get it up and running I used an old stick I had, that I know works well. How do you check the capacitors? I have been reading on this problem, and several people have indicated that they thought a connectors on their mb was broken, but this motherboard has not been dropped or anything. It worked fine yesterday before I replaced the hd. The computer was also running on Windows 2000.

Try installing Win2000.
You have to TEST the ram, not just assume its good because it works in another machine. |
