IE 7 icons missing

After having some problems with possible malware, I did a repair/install of XPpro SP2. Upon completion, I noticed IE 6 was browser in charge. I also noticed that a file I keep on my desktop with shortcuts to my most often visited websites now had the IE icon assigned to them. They had gone missing some time back, replaced with generic file icons. When I upgraded to IE 7, I noticed the old generic icons were back. Any idea what is happeining? I used a saved IE 7 installer: IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu(SP2).exe

A repair install reverts many things back.
Odds are that you also need to download the 80+ Windows Updates.
