Would a repair fix this?

In the bottom pc in my sig, I replaced the mobo and now Windows won't load. Would a repair fix this and what exacly does it do? I heard it just redoes WIndows and leaves all the programs and the stuff in my docs.

when replacing the motherboard, the first thing you should do is remove any drivers and software for the devices not used in the new motherboard.
mainly the drivers for the video card.

then you must do a install of the drivers for the new motherboard, then maybe a repair install of windows.

now I belive the best thing you can do now is to format the hard drive and start over with a fresh install of windows, and the drivers for the motherboard, and then all the drivers and software for any other programs you want to run.

you did not state if the video card was the same one as was used with the old motherboard,
or any of the other hard ware.

A repair install should work ok. No data loss and the installed programs should remain intact. You'll need to install all the correct drivers too as bailey said.

Nothing else changed apart from mobo. I currently cannot boot into windows to retrieve data so I will try a repair.

Well what shadowpr warned of happened, the updates wouldnt install. I went to the windowssecrets link posted by glc and performed the reregistering of the dll's by opening notepad and copying:

regsvr32 /s wuapi.dll
regsvr32 /s wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 /s wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 /s wucltui.dll
regsvr32 /s wups2.dll
regsvr32 /s wups.dll
regsvr32 /s wuweb.dll

and saving it as a .cmd file. Ran the cmd which registered the dlls and launched WU. The updates actually installed!

ANd the repair worked fine, no data loss and all programs work. My PC is so much faster with the new motherboard, my old K7S5A didn't support SSE or AGP 8x or any of the faster Athlon XP's. I think I am going to like my new mobo, with its nForce 2 Ultra 400.
