XP Help
Help, I have a Dell Dimension 3000 Series and was experiencing a slow startup, I went to the startup menu then to "run" typed "msconfig" went to services checked the "hide all Microsoft Services" tab and then went to "Start-up" tab and disabled all the options checked then pressed ok and "exit without restart" Afterwards I went to Control Panel then "Add or remove Programs" and Uninstalled Macafee Components Afterwards restarted but when it came to the restart the windows logo didnt show up. I restarted yet again and tried to press F8 to select "Last known Working settings" but nothing appeared when I pressed F8 , Idk maybe I have to press another button to load the menu idk how to go into Safe Mode or anything like that. All help is appreciated.

Safe Mode can be accomplished by hitting and holding F8 on startup. You'll be brought to an advanced startup menu where you can select it.

By "Last known working Settings" do you mean "Last known good configuration"?
LKGC is actually used for hardware issues, when you boot your computer, you simply have to keep pressing F8 button and after that you see menu where you will see "Safe Mode" ,just highlight that and press enter. It cannot be a hardware issue if you havent made any changes in the hardware device or driver before you had this problem. If you are able to boot into safe mode then try System Restore: Go to start------All Programs------>Accessories------->System Tools------>System Restore. That will help. |
