Error code solution needed....

While a friend was installing a game on a pc, they experienced a power failure. Now the computer will just try to load windows and proceed to a bsd stating that the boot volume is unmountable. How can I repair this?

Download the diagnostic software from the hard drive manufacturer and test the hard drive. Being that Windows will not start, you need to get the standalone DOS version of the diags, not the Windows diags, and create a bootable floppy or CD to run them. The power failure during hard writes probably crashed the heads and the hard drive will need to be replaced. Unmountable boot volume under these circumstances is only one of 2 things - system file corruption or physical bad sectors on the hard drive. If the hard drive tests good, reinstall Windows.
