computer shutting down automatically

My friend has winxp sp2 computer and he said that as he was using the computer ,it got on stand by and shut down automatically?

I wanted to know that does the computer shuts down automatically if it stays on stand by for a long time?

Other question ,is it true that if a computer has a problem and shuts down itself ,then could it happen because of a virus?

If the virus was designed to shut a pc down - then yes...

A weak or failing power supply can cause shut downs.

Heat can cause a pc to shut down...Too many dust bunnies

title

So it depends on the virus capabilities, are viruses also created to restart computers?

Can we fix the heat problem of the computer by going into the BIOS setup and changing the CPU temperature?

If a heat problem, need to open the case an inspect ALL heatsinks for dust build up. Can't do any CPU temp corrections in the BIOS, may be able to set a different trip point. Would also check in the BIOS the PSU voltage levels.
