ntldr problems

Hello,

I am pulling my hair out trying to get a clean install of winxp pro64 on this computer....I keep getting this message:

Windows could not start because the following file is corrupt
\system 32\ntoskrnl.exe
Please reinstall a copy of the above file

My specs are below......I ran seatools from seagate and the disks checks pass, and I did a full erase....I also tried to go back to winxp pro32 bit and it will not load either.....so i don't think it is a damaged or corrupt cd.....

I have been researching this forum and googling it.......can someone please help me start fresh? I have oem versions of both operating systems.

thanks

I have same problem. I am still looking perfect solution for this problem. I looked at microsoft website. They (Microsoft) mentioned we should create a boot disk, but boot disk didn't work either. I checked on my PC BIOS. My mobo is A8V, which has SMART (I forgot what it stand for). It detected my HD as BAD HD. I looked on techsupport website. It mentioned the faulty HD cable might be the problem. I think the same way. I might check my HD cable. I hope I can fix the problem.

It is probably best if you open your own thread on this. Only rarely is it the cable. Most of the time it is a bad HD. Download diagnostics from the HD mfg website and run full diagnostics on the HD.

Well.....I think I may be on to the solution...while waiting for my new hard drive to come in I swapped the sata cable..and reset the bios to default settings....still no help....so back to google and other forums......I have discovered that this mobo needs additional sata drivers to be installed - not just sata raid drivers, but sata winxp 64 bit drivers..and you have to hunt for them on the motherboard disc, but they are there. If you auto run the cd, only 32 bit drivers are listed(sata and sata raid). You have to browse the cd to find the sata 64 bit drivers......so I made a floppy and then pushed F6 during the install process and loaded the sata drivers from the floppy..and the install is progresing......I'll report back....

That was it! Looks like I'll have a spare HD - not a bad thing.....this was very frustrating. I spent a lot of time in the bios running Seatools, wiping the drive, etc........hope this helps someone else.

Thanks to those who tried to help me - hoemee

Glad you got it fixed. It would have been helpful to know that you were running the 64 bit version of XP.

I wanted to add a little more to this post to see if anyone else might be helped......I thought I had solved my problem - but the NTLDR message came back on bootup, saying it was corrupt or missing....I went into the recovery console and tried to copy the NTOSKRNL.EXE file it was asking for from the Windows CD, but kept getting the message of file not found....I had a Windows XP x64 disc with no service packs......so I put in my XP Pro 32 disc with sp2 and it copied the file to the system folder on my hard drive......it still would not boot.....so I did a repair install and that worked. It has been booting fine since......however, I am not impressed with Win XP Pro x64........my super pi went up 2 seconds longer to 1 million! And I still cannot run 3d mark 2006 without it crashing. Every driver install has been troublesome.....the only benefit I can see is that it recognizes 4 gig of ram. I am still having problems with my sound card........
It is just my opinion, but I think Win XP Pro x64 just was not widely embraced by the software community at large......but I think Vista 64 probably will be. If this system crashes one more time I am going back to the 32 bit version.

Hope this helps someone else

Well..got the BSOD and boot problems again....so I put a new western digital hard drive in with a clean install back to Win xp pro 32 bit.........still getting lock ups on Doom3, needing a reboot. The only error I am receiving in the event viewer is a series of ID 51's..hard drive related. I am thinking now I have a problem with the motherboard....

Yes - I ran it from a boot floppy for a couple of hours - no errors......but do you think having 4 sticks in there is causing a problem? It recognizes 3 gigs - I know about the limitation with the 32 bit version of windows....

It MIGHT be causing an issue - pull a pair and run it for a while.
