Ummm, there's this thing called Google, it's out on the Internet you know ???.......
At least try to take a look first! You probably want to buy an OEM copy of XP.

You can install it but it will not activate, leaving you 30 days until it becomes useless. WHat I do is when I get a new pc I use the phone activation and transfer the license from the old to the new and format the old and put Linux or something on it.

RCV, It's not rude to suggest someone should try to find the answer themselves when it is out there at hundreds of retail and online vendors. Also since there's no clue in the profile where the poster is located, there's no way to know if we're talking $US or $CAN or UKpounds or Euros or OZ dollars, etc. People post here from everywhere!
If one can combine buying some hardware with buying an OEM version of a Windows license, it saves money. Often the hardware can be as small as a CD drive, check with the retailer. If no hardware's being bought then you have to get the retail version.

Sure would.
You can even "upgrade" an unactivated copy of Vista to Vista.

Rudeness is frowned upon here and I think you were kinda rude there, Pat.

RCV, please use the report post function next time rather than publicly scold another member. That's MY job. Thank you.

Microsoft only keeps the activation data for about 120 days.
