Can a Windows Update cause one's computer to hang during startup?

Tonight I just did some of those lovely updates and when it went to shut down the buttons said to turn it off so it can install the updates. that's a first for me.

WHen it went to restart it hung on the BIOS screen. I had to try it 3 different times until it came up. Now I'm afraid to turn the gorram thing off.

Any suggestions?

You could uninstall the updates....I'd just reboot ssee what happens. Odds are it'll boot ok not that it's finished the update.

Make sure the "Show updates" box is checked.

From what I know it is really rare for software to cause a hang at the BIOS, as this is completely independant of Windows.

BTW it does that "install updates and shutdown" thing if they jave been downloaded but not installed. If they are installed during you are using it it won't ask that.
