No mike...... ran out of options

I have recently rebuilt my computer with what you see on my sig. All is good now except for my mike. It won't work.

So far I have tried two sets of earphones, removed the sound card and tried the built-in sound card and nothing seems to work.

I see a white out on the sound control panel and don't know why.

Can you help??

Thanks

Att

What kind of mic are you using?

Are you trying the front or rear mic port?
You have checked the connection to them on the Motherboard?

I was referring to the front connections since you usually have to plug in the jacks to the motherboard.

What earphones are you using? Might sound silly but are you plugging both the earphones and mic in?

I'm using a set of Plantronics head phones.

Yes I'm pluging in both... mike in pink input and headphone in green as instructed.

OK, it sounds like you're all hooked up correctly.

You have the playback set to play the mic(it's not muted), right? I might be called Input Monitor.

Which sound card are you using? I'm seeing two different ones, the SoundMax and the X-Fi in your pics.

john ranger - could you open up your advanced settings under microphone and post a pic please.

Try this.....

Selecting correct recording device
1. In Windows XP, click Start , and then Control Panel .

2. In Windows XP, click Sounds , Speech , and Audio Devices , and then Sounds and Audio Devices .

3. Click the Audio tab.

4. Under Sound Playback, select the Audio device that is installed on the PC.

5. Under Sound Recording, select the Audio device that is installed on the computer.

Click OK .

Close the Sound and Multimedia Properties window and test the recording.

Let me know if any change

Also, what happens if you were to unmute the Line In volume?

With there assumptions:

-Plugged into the right jacks on the right sound card
-Microphone is checked in the Recoding control
-All Playback options unmuted
-Correct devices set like Kasturi said

The next thing would to test on a different computer to rule out a bad microphone.

Well tonight I uninstalled all the drivers on the two cards and uploaded only the driver for Creative X FI.

Still nothing. Then I tried an old mike I had that has a battery in it, and at least i could get some sound out of that.

I feel that my other mikes are working good but are not compatible for some reason.

I will keep at it tho.

Thanks for all your help

I'm really imbarased by what I did but I will let you know what happened just incase it happens to you.

All this time I wasted and your time wasted as well because I forgot this little switch on the volume control thing. Look at pic.

Sorry guys but thanks a lot for trying to help me, it's always REALLY appreciated
