What kind of computer is this? Home built or name brand?
What are the complete system specs? List all the parts by brand and model including the power supply. Are you using a genuine MS WinXP installation CD or a burned copy? Cricket

It does this even when im not trying to run the CD ROM disk it gets to the screen just before the screen where you choose which system to run ? it must be a motherboard problem or maybe something to do with the bios settings ? ive tried to run it without the hard drives in it and does the same thing just goes black ? doesnt go to standby just goes black ? any ideas ?

Screen Goes Blank Before Windows screen
I recently just put some bits and peices together to build what looks like a computer.
Problem is it starts up and before the screen where u choose the operating system comes up the screen just turns black . ? ive tried disconnecting the hard drives and everything and it still does the same thing. My plan was to put in the XP disk and reinstall it on the hard drive. It reads the disk and says press any key to boot from CD and once this screen comes up , you have a mear 5 seconds before the screen just turns black ? if i hit f 8 before the screen goes black it goes to the screen where you can choose what mode to start windows... but still any option you choose from that list makes the screen just turn black. any one got any ideas ? i was thinking the mother board or the bios settings but have had a play and cant seem to find where im going wrong > Help would be appreciated thanks :| |

To reinstall XP, first you need to get into the BIOS and set the boot order to CD drive first boot. Then put the XP install disc in the CD, exit and save changes on the BIOS. The computer will reboot and should come up to the XP install screen.
