Bad drive/s w2k server

I have a win2k server with RAID 1 array. The boot drive or maybe both drives, I have determined needs to be replaced after 6 years. (bad sectors keeps screwing up the MFT when defrag or any other disk maintenance is performed and I keep getting the error in even viewer “The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume C:”) I have run chkdsk off of a boot disk I obtained at bootdisk.com to get the thing to boot up the 2 times when I have gotten a blue screen when I either rebooted or it just crashed by itself.

I want to replace both disks without having to reload windows and deal with all the settings and TS licensing issues. I can take the server off line at night so keeping it up while servicing is not an issue. I am thinking copying both drives, or just one of them (not sure if I need to copy both) is the best way to go but I am not sure which disk copy utility would be best to use. The server is up and running for now and I have turned off any services that may check the disk and crash the server but I need to get on this as soon as I figure out the best way to proceed. Since the RAID array is just a mirrored drive situation should I not be able to just replace the bad drive and copy the contents of the 2nd drive to the new one and then just replace the mirrored drive after? I do not think I would be able to find a drive the exact same size if this is going to be a problem either since it is too old, but I am not sure if that even matters.
Any recommendations, links or advice are appreciated.

You can try the clone drive function in Acronis True Image, that will be your best shot. You will have to boot with the CD as the Windows-based program is not compatible with W2K Server, only Pro. If the drive is corrupt, it won't clone.

You can TRY running Spinrite on your array - it may get it working well enough to get a good clone.

Off topic - where the heck have YOU been - haven't seen you around here in *years*! I live in your neck of the woods now.

Hey glc, you are correct. It has been years. I have just been doing other things, kind of got sick of the pc world so I quit coming by. I still work with them all the time but I am sick of them by the end of the day. But I knew I would need to come back eventually and I was right. And yeah you are very close to me know, you almost made it to the BIG city...;-) just a few more clicks east and you are there.

I am going to try some version of ghost that they say will work. I already bought it so I got to at least try it. If that does not fly I am on to your suggestion. I will try to get back with an update.

Thanks

I have determined that it is actually the 2nd hard drive, the mirrored one that is bad. I would like to replace both drives. I know I can pop a new drive in and rebuild the array but I will loose the left over space since I doubt I can find new drives the same size.

Is there a way to replace the failed drive with a larger one and utilize the whole drive. I would like to replace them both with larger drives if that is possible, but all the information I am finding does not cover this scenario and only say that you if replace a failed drive in a RAID 1 you only get the space equivalent to the smaller drive. There has to be a way around this.
Right?

The Ghost software is useful but not really for the task at hand. I will use it for other things since the documentation I finally found says it cannot or at least they do not support ghosting a Terminal Server.

Clone the good drive to a temporary drive, then replace both drives, set up the mirror, then clone it back.
