Disk boot failure

Ok i just ordered a new HD from newegg. This is the second boot issue in one week.

First time it said, windows did not start successfully. I used windows repair utility off the WinXP cd (yes i paid the $300 for it). I had a post about this here...

So got it to boot, used the system for a day, shut it down for the night, i get up in the morning, boot it up now it says DISK BOOT FAILURE.... Ive rebooted the system several times yesterday after downloading windows updates and what ever else...

So i figure, id try windows repair again.....so it does its thing, reboots the computer but insidead of continuing with the repair it just goes to DISKBOOT FAILURE...

So i guess the Harddrive is failing...unless someone knows differently or knows how to work with this, id just like to temporarily fix winXp again just to be able to backup files....

I know i could slave the Hd in another computer, and ill do that if this problem cant be fixed and it is the harddrive..

So is this some other issue or failing HD?

Thanks in advance!

What kind of hard drive is it?

Try their website and see if they have any diagnostic tools that you can run to see if the drive is bad.

hmmm ok i downloaded the fitness test, so its just a software issue i assume? but twice in one week, 2 different errors...same problem-not being able to boot winxp after a booting up for the first time that day.....what is going on with this thing....

I cant use use windows repair, because after it does its thing and reboots the computer, instead of continuing the repair, it goes to the diskboot failure, and yes the system is set to boot to cd first and yes this is an authentic winxp cd.

LOL, ok well looks like its fixed. All i did was set the cmos back to default. I havent touched its settings in at least a year, so i dont understand what could have happend.

I mean of course once this issue happend i went to cmos to see if all my HD's were being seen by cmos correctly and they were.

Im baffled, but oh well...I rebooted and now its continuing the windows repair that i didnt need to use for this issue......SIGH, oh well......

Thanks
