Printing problems: software side of things

OK heres the deal. When using notepad I get a strange message: "page too small to fit one line. Try using a smaller font." And its just normal sized font and ive tried a few different fonts. When I try to print from word 2003 it crashes(this i might actually have to reinstall because even when I try to paste something it crashes), and when i try to print from wordpad it prints blank pages.

When I looked at the print preview for wordpad it was this really small box and you cant see anything inside it, its about the size of a few periods. Zooming in does nothing.

Im at my wits end here. The printer is set up on my moms laptop in her room USB and I have the printer shared. The ONLY computer that seems to be capable of printing to it is my brothers new vista machine. and we used the same programs to print

Ive tried deleting the printer and reinstalling it on my comp and that doesnt seem to work either.
