W2k Server Install On New Hardware?
Anyone know what if any restrictions there are on installing Windows 2000 server on to new hardware using same product key and licenses if you take the other off-line due to hardware failure.
I mean I know I can install it but is that legal according to MS and can I get updates and service packs if I do that? You would think this would be easy to find out over at MS but no. |

It doesn't have any product activation so you will be able to get updates.
I think that you can legally do that as long as you leave to other server powered down until it is needed.

Completely legal. I'd advise you to download the full SP4 and put it on a USB key or a CD ahead of time. Much easier to install that way.
