Windows Update Won't Install

I am running Windows XP Pro SP2. I have automatic updates turned on. Every time I shutdown, it shows that I have an update to install. It goes through the process and shuts down. Problem is, every time I boot up then shutdown, it says it has another update to install. So it never installs the update.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem? I am running my Windows account as a system administrator, so Windows updates should be able to install via the automatic updates.

I went to the Windows Update web site and had it manually search for updates. It found that the updates for Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3) and Update for Outlook Junk Email Filter 2003 (KB943552) needed to be installed. So I told it to install those updates, but after trying it said the updates could not be installed. Both failed to install.

Any suggestions or recommendations is appreciated.

Jim

I've got exactly the same problem and can not install that update. Another 2 updates were ready this morning and they installed with no problems. So any help is appreciated.

See if this helps anyone: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914229/en-us

Only other thing I can think of, is maybe try disabling the firewall, antivirus, or anti-spyware that you have running at the time.

Update for Outlook Junk Email Filter 2003 (KB943552)

Very Easy. Just Follow the following Instructions:

1. Click on "START"

2. Click on "RUN"

3. Type the following on run text box: "services.msc" click ok

4. You will see SERVICES box.

5. On the right box: NAME (COLUM) look for file name : "OFFICE SOURCE ENGINE"

6. Highlight on it. You have to look on "STARTUP TYPE COLUM" : must show MANUAL.

7. If not, you must double click on the highlight "OFFICE SOURCE ENGINE"

8. You will see box OFFICE SOURCE ENGINE PROPERTIES (LOCAL COMPUTER): and choose startup type to manual (Scrool up) and then click "OK"

9. After that click on "START" START the service (Left corner above) Description: Saves installation .......... etc

10. Install the update again. It will work. I guarantee that.
You can also download directly the installation from microsoft cirectly.
