Search in W2K won't find anything

I've a very odd problem on my PC. When in Windows 2000 I search for files, even *.*, it finds nothing. It's looking at all drives, all dates, etc. It was working fine up till a couple of weeks ago.
Has anyone any suggestions what might be causing this and how to resolve it.
